Another summer is out the door. I hate to see my favorite season go! This September has been so dry that leaves are already beginning to cover up the rocks along the creek. Luckily, I squeezed in a lot of rock picking in August, knowing I needed to collect more than 500 rocks to take to Florida. November 6th I will host a hands-on rock painting booth at the Sarasota Reading Festival in downtown Sarasota, Florida. Many of the rocks will have guidelines sketched on to allow new painters to ‘Get Rockin’’ right away. If you are in the area, please come by and see me! Still waiting for my first visit to the Carol Duvall Show to air. In the meantime, I was invited to tape two more segments. The show number for the first one is #1714 and sooner or later it will appear on the schedule. I will try to get word out, but you may also check the show schedule on-line at: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/shows_cds The other two segments are #1825 and #1840, and they probably won’t air until sometime next year. Here is something BIG! Micheal’s Arts & Crafts stores nationwide will be holding an in-store event called “Bug Out at Michaels with Lin Wellford” on Saturday, Oct. 30th. I will be at the Michaels store off Clark Road in Sarasota from 1-3 pm. I’ll bring along a batch of my Ozark rocks to share as well as a display of painted rocks. As always, I would love to meet and talk to other rockers. If you have been looking for a way to meet rock painters in your area, this could be your chance! You might even feel moved to see if there is some way you could participate. Please call a store near you and find out who the in-store events coordinator is and the best way to make contact. Michaels is planning to offer free painting sessions and it would be so helpful to have experienced and enthusiastic rock painters get involved to help new painters with this introduction. You might be able to advise the coordinator on where rocks can be obtained locally, offer to help with instruction or set up a display of your own rocky artwork. Sometimes a little encouragement can make a world of difference in another person’s life. I know how generous rock painters tend to be with their time and talent. You guys rock! If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me. This is a chance for all of us to share what we’ve learned and encourage others to give rock painting a try! Have a wonderful autumn, and don’t forget to stock up on good rocks before the snow flies! An old tarp laid over your rock pile will protect them from damp leaves and snow, making it easier to select rocks to paint during those long, cold days of winter. Keep Rockin’, Lin
