This morning the sun came up through a veil of mist so that the woods below my house seemed to be bathed in a golden glow. The skies are clear and the creeks are running. What a perfect time of the year to be outdoors. Naturally, one of my first destinations as the weather warms up is the rocky river bank not far from my house. High waters have raked the shores and uncovered or deposited a whole new batch of rocks to choose from. That’s good, because I will need a lot of them. May 7th I will be hosting a rock painting activity as part of an all day library festival for kids at the big new library in Fayetteville, AR. In June, Rock painter Wandra Dees and her super host-hubby T.Joe are planning to hold another of their fun-filled Rock Painter’s Get-Togethers (# 6) at her home on the shores of Table Rock Lake in SW Missouri. In past years we have had painters come from as far away as Montana, Georgia and Ohio. Each year is a little different but always fun. Wandra asks for a $10 registration fee per person so that she and her husband can provide food and rent the tables and chairs needed to transform their boathouse into a giant painting studio. Everyone from brand -new painters to those with years of experience are invited to come for a weekend of painting fun, food and friendly people. This year we plan to begin with another ‘rock hunting safari’ to my favorite spot in NW AR on Friday. To see photos from last year’s party, go to http://www.geocities.com/wandra_ann/RockPaintGetTogether2004.html It looks like there just
may be an reprise of last year’s truly wonderful New England Get-Together,
too! My webmistress opened her home and park-like acreage to several
dozen rock painters last August and it was so much fun than she wants to
do it again! This year’s date is the weekend of July 23rd.
I sure hope to see at least a few of the people I met last year plus some
new faces!
On the way up to take part
in the New England Get-Together, I have arranged to present classes on
rock painting at three A.C. Moore stores. The first is at the Knoxville,
TN store on July 17th from 1-3pm.
In September, plans are in the works for a West Coast ‘Rock-O-Rama’ in Marysville near Sacramento the weekend after Labor Day. Anyone interested in more info on that event can email me and I will put you in contact with the planning committee. My husband and I are planning to drive out to take part and I would love to meet new friends that weekend at what promises to be a really wonderful time. I know that space for the Rock-O-Rama will be limited, so if you want to join us, don’t dawdle. I would love to see photos
from anyone who has constructed a giraffe from my zoo book.
Thanks to all of you who take the time to write me notes about your painting and rock picking adventures. It makes my day to hear from you. Keep Rockin’
