Stone Menagerie Newsletter Rock Art Newsletter- Winter
2005
January has passed with hardly a flake of snow so far here in the Ozark Mountains. This winter I am at work on another book, to be called “Rock Painting Fun for Everyone”. Like Painting on Rocks for Kids, it will feature a variety of easy-to-paint pieces perfect for even the newest painters, but geared to more adult tastes. It will also offer more challenging projects that I hope will tempt people to stretch their creative muscles a bit, and loads of “More Ideas” photos to inspire and hopefully delight more seasoned painters. After nearly a year of waiting, my first taped visit to the Carol Duvall show is scheduled to air on Feb. 11. The segment is called “Painted Rock Garden”. Carol’s show is on in the mornings, but check you local listings for exact times in your area. I ended up taping four segments altogether, but apparently HGTV is opting to ‘sprinkle’ new shows in amongst repeats. Word is that the Carol Duvall program taped its last new shows this past fall, but as far as I know, they will continue to air it using previously broadcast shows along with the new shows for some time to come. Carol is a lovely lady with loads of infectious enthusiasm for all manner of art and craft projects and I enjoyed the chance to work with her and her studio crew. Although my publisher opted to discontinue putting out issues of Painting on Rocks Magazine, I wrote an article in the current (Spring ’05) Jo-Ann Magazine, which is published for the Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft chain of stores. It should be available there as well as at many bookstores with large magazine displays. I did a custom lizard project for them, another of the endless possibilities. I so enjoy introducing kids to the pleasures of making art. This year I helped a group of youngsters from my church paint ‘Swaddling Babies” as part of our celebration of Christmas. This will be one of the projects included in the new book, along with a whole set of Nativity figures. Perhaps it will start a new tradition as families create their own future ‘Christmas Heirlooms’. Thanks so much to all who
take the time to send me notes and photos of their work, to share tales
of their successes or ask questions I may be able to answer. Please
let me know how painting on rocks has helped you or a family member to
relax and recharge creative batteries, grow as an artist or to connect
with someone else as you pass on your expertise.
