NEW BOOK!
Are you among the folks awaiting word of when the newest rock painting book, “Painting Pets on Rocks” would arrive?  After several delays and some conflicting reports on just when it would be available, it’s finally here! One hundred and twenty-eight pages of colorful, step-by-step instructions with a grand total of 12 complete projects plus gallery photos and enough new ideas to fill a whole pet store!

As always, this book includes projects for both beginning artists and seasoned rock painters to enjoy.  In fact, the tropical fish are ideal for new painters, but they’re so much fun to do that I hope everyone will give them a try! Because you can use such a wide variety of rock sizes and shapes, fish rocks are easy to find. This summer I hosted several rock painting sessions at our local library, and kids ranging from 4-15 years of age had an absolute ball with them.

Other projects offered are guinea pigs, parrots, four new cats, including the oft-requested Siamese, plus a solid black, solid white and a tabby cat done in steps that are broken down so you can keep it simple or go for maximum realism and detail.

Also included are a whole pack of dogs, with four representative types offered as projects and many more additional breeds included in a gallery format.

Also unique to this book is a chapter dealing with how you can use your own photos to create custom portraits of beloved family pets.  It includes tips on selecting colors and a guide to recognizing geometric shapes that will help you translate your family pooch into a rocky work of art.

CONTEST!
Each copy of “Painting Pets on Rocks” includes a bind-in card that you can fill out and send to enter the drawing for a custom painted pet portrait. North Light is sponsoring the drawing and will randomly select three entries.  Winners may choose to have me paint a portrait of their pet from a photograph or simply request a standard breed of dog or cat (or fish or rabbit or ???)  The retail value of each pet portrait is $100.00, a will be signed and dated each by me. See the card for further details.

Upcoming Events-
Oct. 5-7 I will have a booth at “Color My World” painting convention at the Clarion Convention Center in Oklahoma City, OK. Hours are 7-9 on Thurs. 10-6 on Fri. and Sat. I’d love to meet you and perhaps even get a peek at what you’ve been painting…
Oct. 28 I will be at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, MO for an all-day book signing and painting demo. If you live in the area, come by and say ‘Hi’! Bass Pro is located at 1935 S. Campbell.

Painting Tip- This one comes from my friend Shar:  to create a scaly texture on a lizard or fish, use a scrap of fiberglass screening. Press it down and paint over the weave to create a quick and easy scale pattern.
